Description
A Great Blue Heron, Portland, Oregon's official city bird. (Why a city might need an official bird is a question for a different time. :-) )
I shot this guy at a park within walking distance of home this afternoon. I was maybe 20 steps from him here. You can see that he's still standing on one leg; I haven't spooked him yet. A few seconds later some people on a path behind him make some noise and he took off while I was fiddling with my camera, so I missed it. But he'll be back, and so will I.
Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

Love those herons! Too bad your camera focused on the background, it would have been a fantastic capture! Keep trying, Dennis, once the heron will pose for you and you'll shoot it perfectly! :)
What a majestic pose he struck for you. I hope you find him again so you get more shots for us. I enjoyed seeing his feather pattern up close.
A great shot of the guy.
A very sweet pose...and a smart bird!!
Magnificent! A beautiful shot of a beautiful creature :)
What a wonderful photo. I'm surprised you could get so close.
