Description

About Raumpatrouille TV series: Raumpatrouille - Die phantastischen Abenteuer des Raumschiffs Orion, colloquially also known as Raumpatrouille Orion (Raumpatrouille is "Space Patrol" in English), is the first German science fiction television series. Its seven episodes were broadcast by the ARD in 1966, with the first episode aired on Sept. 17th. It achieved audience ratings of up to 80 %. The series has since acquired cult status in Germany and in many other European countries. The special effects of the black and white series, which were spectacular at the time, now possess a certain quaint charm. Nonetheless, the considerable costs of the series led to its termination after only seven episodes. 2003 saw a movie composed of various scenes from the original series, and 145 novels based on and continuing the series were published over the years. Here is the voiceover introduction byCliff Allister McLane, which both, like used in Star Trek of the same year, set tone and atmosphere of the series: "It may sound like a fairytale today, but today's fairytale may be tomorrow's reality. Here's a fairytale from the day after tomorrow: There are no more national states, there's only mankind and its colonies in outer space. One has settled on far away stars, the ocean floor has been made accessible for living. With velocities still unimaginable today spaceships are rushing through our milky way. One of these crafts is the ORION, a minuscule part of a gigantic security system protecting the earth from threats from outer space. Let's accompany the ORION and her crew patrolling at the edge of infinity." About the picture: On the background is the Orion VIII starship, the "hardware hero" of the series. In the foreground is the Lancet, the Orion VIII shuttle. Inside the Lancet you can see Cliff Allister McLane the commander of Orion VIII. This is my tribute to this cult Tv series of my youth. Rates, votes and comments are welcome :) BTW: Don't forget to visit (and/or link) my website at: www.innovari.it where you will find many free Bryce 3D meshes and other interesting stuff!

The voiceover comments for the show, with their positive view of the future, are sorely needed today. I wish there were more TV SF shows like "Raumpatrouille Orion"
