She didn't know why she had expected anything different. There was always one more person to talk to, one more drink to have, or some innocently forgotten yet supremely vital piece of equipment left to get. True he was a great pilot and a better than average scout, but they had a schedule to keep with the X-boat before she made her jump. Like so many times before he said "I'll be right back.", and so many times before she threatened to leave without him. She almost had once or twice but she never did for always the same reason...
She loved him.
