Description

Mission - San Xavier Del Bac Mission Altar Obviously, this is the mission's altar - a tad ornate for my personal taste - almost everything up there has been gilded in either gold or silver. This was a particularly onerous shot as I felt that bringing a tripod into a church while people were praying would be a bit gauche so I sat in the first pew, rested the camera on the railing in front of me and squeezed off the shot - 1.5 seconds at f3.1 - one could spend weeks just photographing the detail up here. Another artistic scribbling - Your comments and suggestion are very highly valued and quite deeply appreciated.

It looks amazing!!! This is so impressive, but in my mind I see all this poor mexican people, specially 100 and more years ago who had not enough to eat and this church is stuffed with gold, what a blasphemy and this was called a mission!!!! However I love this wonderful image, it is from overwelming beauty!!! Excellent captured!!!

very ornate and reminds me of some cathredrals in the Filipines. often hard to make a good capture in a church with poor light but yours came out perfect

This is a beautiful capture! And the history is interesting to this church as well. http://emol.org/tucson/sanxavier/history.html It is so easy for non-Christians to blame Christians for everything. :-(

This is very elaborate, but it tells a story of devotion and love and great faith. Someone spent many many hours and attention to detail, to accomplish this very driven decoration.

Oh wow!! Now this is a real piece of art!!! I'm always amazed when I see that kind of architecture and its complexity! No wonder it took sometimes centuries to finish one of those!!!
