i think the original was made from a replica Mauser 1896 automatic? Winston Churchill and Lawrence of Arabia used that gun, and you can see it at http://www.a2armory.com/auto-mauser.html similarly, the stormtroopers blasters look like slightly modified Sterling machine guns, and their heavier blasters look to be German MG38s ?? all because they were on such a low budget when they did the first film..

I agree with wingnut, the original model was a Mauser 1896 semi/full automatic, I have a working replica of it, a mechanical masterpiece. Cool modeling, I think you could do better than this using different materials.
