Description


Late medieval merchant houses in Ghent, Flanders. The street is called the Graslei and is said to be the most beautiful medieval street in the world. It lies on the bank of the river Lys ("Leie" in Dutch). In the houses wheat, spices, cloth and other goods were traded. After Bruges, Ghent was the most prosperous city in medieval Flanders.
