In particular, I dislike that I can no longer select to go to just New Poser Products from the menu.  I purchase nearly exclusively Poser content, and have zero interest in anything Daz, Genesis, Unity, or Unreal.

I also dislike that now it seams from time to time even after selecting Poser from the software options, I still need to wade through Genesis products.

If the product works inside more than one software, it will also show in that area.

We are still working on sorting and correcting issues with products being in the wrong place, so those will also be taken care of as we continue working on that area of the site.

It's likely that the Gebesis products are DSON compatible

Not native Poser. Dson no longer supported and was always unreliable. Shouldn't be showing up as Poser products.  It just makes it more difficult to look for products.

While we do go through the marketplace and clean up categorization, there are two very legitimate reasons for various generations of Genesis characters showing up:

1. As RedPhantom mentioned, legacy Poser products that support Genesis and Genesis 2 in Poser.

Why not remove these from categorization? Because some Poser users still use various legacy versions of Poser and still buy those products. So these products still need to be accurately categorized.

2. Cross-Platform DAZ Studio/Poser products.

There are some vendors who make cross-platform products. These products tend to be very good value for customers.
While these vendors are (nowadays) required to provide separate zip files for DAZ Studio and Poser versions, categorization needs to include everything that is included in the entire product. So categorization will of course contain any and all figures the product is for.

My recommendation is to simply pick any figures you DO want to shop for under Figures in the browsing menu (after also selecting Poser under Software) and go from there. Hope that helps.

There is NO legitimate reson for ANY generation of Genesis to show up as a Poser product - they are not Poser products wityjout a third party set of plugins that has always been unreliable at best and now is no longer supported.

The last thing Poser needs is for the content category to be watered down.

But there are still Poser 11 and earlier users who have DSON installed and might want this content.  I'm willing to suffer a bit of inconvenience for their sake even though I've pretty much moved on from Genesis and Genesis 2.

Dson is a third party plugin and not Poser Native.

If selecting Poser specifically is not going to limit results to Poser specific content then there is no point to the category system.

By the logic coming up in responses, might as well start listing FBX, OBJ, and other formats the Poser does natively import - water down and dilute the category further.

Also, let's be clear:

Poser 11, 10/Pro 2014, 9/2012 Do not natively support Dson. You need a third party plugin that has it's own issues, and last I heard only works with older Genesis content itself (3 and earlier).

Claiming this is for the sake of Older Poser versions is misleading. Genesis is not, and never was Poser content directly.

DSON doesn't even work with Gen 3 DAZ content without a lot of extra hassle; support ended at Genesis 2.  All that you say as "Let's be clear" is understood before you said it, Kage.  I don't claim it is for "Older Poser versions".  I claim it is for those who use the DSON plugin.  If someone is using that plugin then they must be using an older version of Poser as upgrading Python after P11 absolutely ended support for the DSON plugin.

Let me be clear: I'd be happy to see all the DSON stuff for Poser marked differently, too.  I don't use it.  Others do, however, and I am willing to endure a bit of inconvenience for their sake.

Perhaps there should be a DSON plugin required category?  Since no new stuff is made for that and the old stuff is slowly being removed from the market it seems like a matter of time and it will take care of itself.

On the flip side, older Poser content usually works well in DS. So, even if Poser people aren't interested in DS content, some DS people are still interested in some Poser content. And there may yet be people using both programs.

Genesis was NEVER supported natively in ANY version of Poser!

Genesais is NOT and NEVER was Poser content.

It does not belong under the Poser content category.

Nor was this the only issue I brought up with the marketplace redesign, nor were the issues I brought up the only issue with the marketplace.

So yeah, on the website of the current owners of Poser we can't go directly to Poser content, and selecting Poser content results in Non-poser content STILL in the search results, which people are defending, AND we have product re-releases and not just products from other websites, but products already previously on renderosity - so yeah, just keep making it worse for poser users and everyone else just keep defending it. This is why Poser is essentially dead.

Let’s be clear: with the versions of Poser currently on sale, the Genesis generation cannot be installed—it borders on misleading. And if you want Genesis, you have to look under "Figures," so what is the point?

Let me be clear again: Genesis is showing up under Poser content, as I already stated, not figures.  As it is not a native Poser format, it should not be showing up under the Poser Content filter.  That was my initial point.

Are we only talking about DSON Genesis figures here? Genesis 1 and Genesis 2?

Many of the DSON products that support Genesis 1 or 2 are also for other figures (especially V4). So those would need to be listed under Poser in any case.

The idea was also expressed that products supporting DSON should not be listed under Poser because DSON is a third party plugin. This is rather impractical. The product files actually being sold  are in Poser format which makes Poser the primary software for these products. V4 and Dawn could also be looked at as third party 'plugins' if you want to go down that road.

Interesting points that were made here was that DS customers might by older Poser products (true), also the idea of a dedicated DSON category is not bad. Just bear in mind that if the product is not only for DSON but for example also for V4, it will still need to be listed under Poser and V4. An interesting question is how many DSON-only products there really are.

But let's look at what could be done in terms of correcting the DSON issue but also what might get in the way for a quick fix:

1) Poser products for DSON figures only. One option would be to retire them. (Or add the DSON category which would be a much softer fix). There are no current plans that I know of to retire all DSON-only products. A decision like that would definitely affect vendors and customers so it is definitely not something that should be implemented on a whim. Management level long term decision.

2) Cross-platform products for DS and Poser which support only DSON-imported figures on the Poser end. The Poser category would be removed from these.

3) Poser only products which support DSON-imported figures together with V4 /Dawn/native Poser figures. Here, Genesis 1/2 Figure categories would be removed.

Now there is not much point doing 2) and 3) unless we are also being consistent and retiring the products under 1), which makes the whole thing something that should not be rushed. Perhaps it will happen some time in the future. Meanwhile, my recommendation is still to use the Figure selection to narrow things down while browsing:

Now, on to what I think you may actually be looking at, which is not DSON products at all.

The DSON products are all older products that won't show up at all on the first few pages of recent Poser products. Which is where you would have gone when pressing thet 'New Poser Products' button. So it can't be something that you see right away when browsing under Poser. I also don't see how DSON products appearing could be something that is only due to recent site changes. It might be a good idea to keep these things separate.

Let's move our focus to what you are likely to see a lot more of - cross-platform products supporting Genesis 8 and/or 9 as well as either V4 and/or La Femme.
Here is an example of what happens if we select Poser under Software and Genesis 9 under Figures:

So what you can see here is quite a few cross-platform pose and hair addon packs with support for V4/La Femme in Poser and G8/G9 in DAZ Studio.

Vendors are completely free to decide whether they prefer to release their Poser and DAZ versions together or separately and this policy has been in place since forever. Some vendors do separate plus a bundled version. There are many good reasons why things are this way. Good value for customers and it also improves single-product sales for vendors. Especially if the products are for Poser in which case they may otherwise see lower sales. Vendors are required to provide separate DS and Poser installation files since many years back, so there should be no technical issues. Again, none of this has anything to do with recent interface chages.

Do let me know if you see any products under Poser that are ONLY for DAZ Studio though - those I can fix immediately. :)

Yes, I am seeing bunches of Genesis products under the poser category. Randing from Genesis 3 through Genesis 8, on the very first page after I select Poser as the software filter.

When there was the option to select "New Poser Products" and go straight to them this did not happen.

I said all of this in the first post - and then it turned into attempts to justify why some versions of Genesis should show up, which no they shouldn't.

Also, NO figures are not "third party plugins" but the plugin for Dson compatibility, which only works in some versions of Poser and with some versions of Genesis, is.

Can we stop this attempting to twist the facts and mislead the discussion?

Better yet - I have my solution now given this nonsense responses by Renderosity staff:

After some thought, I actually think the DSON category is the best idea here so far.

However, bear in mind that it would only fix DSON-only products. If the products are also for V4 in Poser, they still need to be in the Poser category. If the products are for Genesis 2 in DS and Poser, they will still need to appear under DAZ Studio. And it will not change how non DSON cross-platform products work. So the question is how much of a difference it would really make.

Did you understand that these are cross-platform products? This means they are for both Poser and DS amd also for currently viable figures, not DSON.

I see what might have been the case. That New Poser Products button might not have been listing cross-platform products.

If this was the case, you would have been missing out on a ton of Poser products that just happened to be cross-platform.
I would have to verify exactly how it used to work of course. But this means there might actually have been a big improvement.

Done buying here and done supporting poser!

Wanting to see Poser products only when using the Poser filter should not be unreasonable or controversial or met with this ridiculous level of pushback! If Bondware and Renderosity are not going to take supporting Poser seriously or treat Poser users with any modicum of respect why should I keep supporting either?

Now, I did find one vendor that sells OBJ files and seems to be listing too many software options. I will go through their store tomorrow and then see what else I can find.

Just be aware that I am doing this for the store and not because you are screaming and shouting. No one has called you stupid but I will definitely call your behavior here inappropriate.
