Hi,
This is because of the UV mapping. In the vertex modeling room you can engage the UV editor (x,y,z for 3D space and U,V for 2D texture space) In the UV editor you can reposition the mesh to fit within the UV space. There is much more that you can do with it.
First check the manual out for an introduction and see if that gets you going.
I actually have a solid introduction into UV mapping in my C7 Pro tutorials if your interested. I know that the Infinite skills are good but we cover different subjects between the two of us.

You can find my C7 series here: http://www.markbremmer.com/3Bpages/carrara7Pro.html
I also have some more advanced tutorials there under the Dark Arts heading.
I haven't done a C8 version yet because the improvements to Carrara were predominately 64 bit upgrades and some more "fringe" enhancements targeted at some very unique usages. The core (albeit wide) functions of Carrara have remained unchanged.

I am new at working with Carrara 8 pro or any 3d app.. I have tried to find lessons for it and got infiniteskills tutorials. The tutorials are great but when I try to add a texture map to a box or really anything it is to big. I don't know what I am doing wrong? Need help to make these texture maps fit the items I am trying to apply it to. I have tried to make the jpegs smaller but still no luck.
