Hi Klebnor. I am a Carrara content creator and I fight together with Ringo Monfort and Daz3D to create a basic template for installation, and this is the same that I use to post products here at Renderosity.
The real problem is that Carrara alone cant look at their folder and update the information. This is one thing that I have asked to development team for long time now, and I think will be a next step for Carrara (Hope to see this in C8.5)... and you are right, there are a need for more information about how to install Carrara packages. But the rule is that almost all folders that are added need to be assigned by hand in the Browser.
What I do to dont have to add folder again and again, is add the Scene folder (the entire folder to the Browser), and not one by one as we see in the default installation. I do the same for all others folders like Shaders, Objects.
I cant post a printscreen because I am rendering a new image and it will take about more 4 or 5 hours to finish...

Does anyone know of a tutorial or set of instructions for installing content?
It seems that the installer sticks files in a number of folders, in various places. I'm at a loss as to what goes where in the browser.
Lotus 123 ~ S-Render ~ OS/2 WARP ~ IBM 8088 / 4.77 Mhz ~ Hercules Ultima graphics, Hitachi 10 MB HDD, 64K RAM, 12 in diagonal CRT Monitor (16 colors / 60 Hz refresh rate), 240 Watt PS, Dual 1.44 MB Floppies, 2 button mouse input device. Beige horizontal case. I don't display my unit.
Good point to a video! I will work in this this weekend. I am fighting to consolidate all content in just 2 folders in Carrara: Scenes and Presets, and this could act as Runtime folders like in Poser.
But for now I will do a video about what goes where... but theres a problem here, Carrara only have two file extension: CAR (Objects and Scenes) and CBR (Presets like clouds, sky, shaders and others).

Thanks, GKDantas. I am still trying to import the grass. I am now running the installer to a completely blank directory so I can study what it installs and where. Hopefully that will give me a clue what to import to the browser.
At this point I really appreciate Howie Farkes for doing such a good wiki on his Arboretum series. I was able to add the folder with the individual trees (select plants) into the browser and can now select the trees from there. They are very good, by the way.
Regards,
Klebnor

Yes, it was through reading some fine print on one of the products, that I learned we need to point the browser to its own content.
It took me a year to realize that much of the added content is actually accessible through the presets in the individual general and scene pallete tabs. The background tab, etc. are full of fun stuff.

I have now bought a bunch of content and, after installation, I can't find anything.
At least Howie Farkes takes the time to do a nice job on the wiki so you can find out how to install and where to find things. I got his Arboretum and the trees don't show up in the browser, but he let's you know how to get at them through the insert menu.
I just installed Replicator Grass and can't figure out any way to get to the object files or use the product. No Wiki, no instructions, no nothing. I installed to another folder to see where everything went, but can't get to it with the browser or insert menu.
One of the basics of software is to create rules that vendors and users can follow for enhancement of the software, but Carrara seems averse to creating a common methodology for content creation, installation and documentation.
I don't think I'll buy anything else made for Carrara unless they go to zip files so I can see what the content is and where it goes. And good vendors can include a readme file.
Til then, I'll just have to settle for Poser content - at least you can install predictably to a runtime and see the content in the browser!
