Subject: Calling GKDantas

I am trying to use the GIDome 1 and 2 with Carrara, and am having difficulty.  First, I cannot seem to get them into the browser for Carrara 7Pro.  I install (using the damn Daz installer - I hate this proprietary installer method).  Then I go to the browser and add folder.  I navigate to where the files are placed by the installer, under presets in my main Carrara 7Pro folders.  I try to add the folder and it prompts me as to what I want to install.  I try everything.  In my browser I have a set of background presets under GIDome1, but no backdrops.  I have nothing in the folder on the browser for gkdHDRI after installing this.  I put a color in the backdrop, then drop one of the background images over the background in the scene and it seems to pick it up.  I am getting little to no effect in the image.  I have removed one wall, as described in the video tutorial.  I also get lots of bad artifacts in shadowed areas.

How do I use this product?  How do I use the HDRI files?  Do these not install or work in Carrara 7Pro?

Thanks for any help.

After I bought this product through DAZ, I opened into a "holding" folder, then did a drag and drop of the GI dome files into the Carrara presets. This makes them directly available under the presets button on the background palette.
There is no dome as such in C7, The HDRI goes into background and/or backdrop and works from there.
At least, that's how I use it. :)

Hi Klebnor, the idea is simple add the folders to Backgrounds and Backdrops in the Misc tab.
Backgrounds are the HDRI files, so you just need to drag and drop the preset to your Background option. Backdrop are for colors only, this way you will not see the HDRI file as a rendered background in the final image.
Both folders need to be added by hand (hope this change in future!). Look at your presets folder and you will find both GIDome folders under Backgrounds and Backdrops folders too.
Let me know if you have more problems.

Thanks all.  I can open the presets from the background menu on the Scene, but there is no way I can see the backdrops or backgrounds in the browser.  When you say add by hand, to put the folders into the preset folders and then use update folder in the browser?

I have also noted, now that I have it working, that the HDRI needs the ceiling off of a room to work.  If I just remove a wall, then all the light is coming from the direction of that wall.

In the little icon in the right of your browser you can see the option ADD FOLDER, so you can add the Backdrop and Background folders (I add the top folders here, so everything that you add inside those folders will be showed in next start).
Yes Carrara dont have an option to use HDRI images inside closed rooms, so you need to remove some walls or ceiling.
