winmount is a windows program that allows the creation of ramdrives from various formats...examples zip, rar, iso's. I haven't installed the carrara 6.1 update but I do use carrara 6.0.x pro. With carrara I use winmount to access runtimes in zip or rar files that aren't part of my normal runtimes which are always connected to carrara via the browser/content tab. at first I tried using an iso creation program and organizing my runtime folders that way. but since many programs open zip files I choose that format to replace the iso's. I may start using 7Z from now on for its higher compression rate.

I use WinMount (http://www.winmount.com/about.html) as a way to access runtime folders I create and save as zip files. winmount creates a ramdisk (aka ramdrive) that does not require a temp file on you harddrive. I find Carrara handles this runtime folder in the content tab just fine. Upon restarting Carrara with the zip unmounted the folder simply disappears from the content tab with no fuss. The benefits I find is that I can create neat and orderly runtimes in zips(other formats supported also!)and be able to use in Carrara. I can create a runtime just with animals for example and create zip file called "runtime animals" and when I need it while using carrara I right click in windows explorer and mount the zip. After that I follow the standard procedure within Carrara to add this runtime to the content tab. I believe also that when organizing runtimes in a format like a zip or iso winxp see these as one single file when defragmenting the harddisk which I suppose helps to keep the disk defragmented. while I won't say winmount is a must have program I find Carrara easier to use with it than with out it. cheers!
