Subject: Canceling Quick Render or Hair Simulation

On several occasions, I've wanted to cancel a Quick Render (which wasn't being very quick), but can't find an obvious way to do it.  I've also failed to find any way to cancel a hair simulation.  Is there any way to do either of these?

in OS X, either type cmd-. (or click somewhere on the screen) to stop area render. dunno about simulation. I never know when one of those things is done - no progress bar or anything.

Press ESC (and keep it pressed until it stops)
