Subject: How do you animate the new volumetric clouds?

I have been trying to figure it out -- if I change the number for 'animate' at a specific frame, it changes it back at frame 1 as well. Setting a number other than the default of zero at frame 1 doesn't seem to do anything either. I've tried changing parameters and shuffling, and it changes frame 1, with no key frames added. What am I missing? I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks!
