Subject: Changing leaves out on the native trees ?

I want to use my own leaves...How do I do this? I've done it before & have been piddling all afternoon trying & do it again - applying alpha maps as leaves that is. I have told the shader to use to the alpha maps but it appears as though the alpha is mapping itself onto the leaf already in extistance instead of fully replacing. What have I missed? Thanks
