Subject: Kensington Trackball and Hexagon?

sailor_ed ( ) posted Tue, 22 November 2005 at 9:58 AM · edited Thu, 09 July 2026 at 10:29 AM

Kind of OT.. Can someone tell me if the Kensington Expert Mouse Trackball with the scroll ring is compatible with Hexagon? Specifically does the scroll ring correctly zoom the camera in and out. TIA Ed

I can't say for sure. However, I use a Wacom tablet and 4D mouse and the zoom function workes great with it's scroll wheel. (Wacom products are unsupported in the Hex docs) I'd cautiously say that you'd be safe since the implementation between the input devices is similar. Additionally, I use a Contour Shuttle input device and have customized similar functionality with that as well. Mark

Thanks Mark. BTW what is a Contour Shuttle?

It's used for video editing. It has a couple of scroll wheels and 13 customizable buttons for all of the silly things you need to do when editing.

I looked it up on the web. I'm guessing I should stick with what I know but do you like the Shuttle for Hexagon?

It's great for Hexagon: tool short cuts, smoothing operations, camera dolly etc. are just button clicks instead of moving my hand around the keyboard to do the same thing. For Carrara, all the keyboard shortcuts for hopping from room to room and camera functions for dolly etc I've customized to the buttons. So, I use the mouse to point and the Contour for everything else. I'm lazy and if I move my hands too much, I get easily confused, too. ;)

Get a Wacom tablet. Then when you get ZBrush you'll be sailing. ;-)

don't have Hex, but for Carrara it works great... actually for everything it works great.

Hexagon, Carrara, Sculptris, and recently Sketchup.

Falcon: good play on words! Unfortunately ZBrush awaits some unforseen financial windfall! Thomllama: Thnx for the info. Are we talking C5 here? It seems to use the camera in the same way as Hex.
