fuzzoom,
Grooves doesn't do subdivision, just slices up the existing mesh so sometimes if the underlying mesh is not fine enough, it will be evident in the final version. Try using an Anything Grooves primitive set on Sphere instead of applying Anything Grooves to the built in Sphere primitive.

I am new to Carrara and 3D modeling in general. I am working on my first scene in Carrara. I used Anything Grooves to make the spikes on the kiwano melon. It also caused the melon's surface to have a slightly "faceted" appearance. I used a sphere primitive for the melon, not a vertex object sphere. Does anyone have any ideas on what might cause this? On another note, there are also some odd anti-aliasing artifacts around the spikes of the melon. The image I have attached is only part of the scene. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
