Hi folks,
Today we introduce a new plug-in for Carrara 3 called Velout Veloutbr> is a collection of 11 shaders sharing more than 70 procedural textures.
Originally developed in order to provide textures for buildings and
construction, the added noise, gradient, and perturbation shaders make them
essential tools for the creation of rich and detailed textures, and an
excellent partner plug-in for Anything Grooves.
All of Velouts shaders implement their own bump mapping. The results
are much more detailed than Carrara's default implementation. Velouts also
handles its own first pass of anti-aliasing so the rendering engine's
anti-aliasing quality doesn't have to be high to get great results. Taking
care of the texture aliasing problem at the texture level instead of the
rendering level means faster rendering times for an equivalent texture
quality.
Velouthas 3 main shader categories:
The first one, VeloutTools, contains general functions (such as noises,
filters, gradients .) useful in the creation of any kind of texture. These
shaders can be found under VeloutTools.
The second set contains shaders more specific to the shading of buildings
with functions designed to create surfaces, facings, and floorings. These
shaders can be found under the VeloutTile.
The last set of shaders uses the same functions as the previous one, but
instead of working with only one channel, they work as a Multi Channel
mixer, using Multi Channel shaders as children. Therefore they can be found
at the top level of the shading tree, under VeloutTile Multi Channel.
Veloutcomes with over 30 sample shaders and two new tutorials to get
you started. To get more details about Veloutcheck out the Veloutpage at

You can download and try out Veloutfrom the following links. Veloutbr> supports an evaluation mode. During evaluation, Veloutwill only evaluated
a limited number of calls and then will only return the color black until
you restart Carrara.
