Has anybody tried the CD courseware from Eovia on Carrara? How is it? Is it worth the price?

Hi Jcleaver, See by yourself, you can watch a few tutorials here : http://www.computer-training-software.com/carrara.htm From what i've seen, it's very well done and complete . litst

I have it and like it. It's not going to show you super advanced stuff but I really think all skill levels will learn things. I really like to learn from seeing as opposed to reading. Chris

Hartcons, That is also a great point. They have some great Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop tutorials as well. Chris

I've been working through the online course for After Effects and have found it very helpful. Nice not to have to keep a book open on my desk (plus having a voice attached to the material helps keep it more interesting) or even to have to fumble for a CD or DVD. I'm on a cable modem; don't know how well it would work over a 56K modem. I figure I can use the online service for two months for the price of one real book.

I highly reccomend the VTC tutorial discs. I got it and ran through it a week ago. I reccomend it, if for no other reason than I feel the Carrara manual is the worst ever penned. However; I know that many have strong opposing views here.

The discs are, at times, childishly simple. For example: his exposition on the Vertex Modeler. He leads you by the hand as he explains each of the four shapes, loads one, then goes to the Properties Tray and shows you "Here are the number of polygons. Here are the number of vertices. Here are the..." There are times when I want to say "Yes! Yes! Get on with it!"

The compositing is a little loose at times. He'll be explaining something and the visuals have moved on to the next topic. So some segments will have to be watched over and over.

He frequently says "Speer" when he means "Sphere", and there are awkward pauses. I don't think he worked from a prepared script. A lot sounds like he was 'winging it'.

Still there are a lot of subjects, like Texturing and Layers, Mixers and Functions that are very good. Modifiers too. Bones and IK Chains get a lick and a promise. But on the whole, I'm glad I got it, and will be referring to it often.

I just went looking for VTC, and could'nt find them online. I've subscribed, for Bryce, in the past, but none of my links, including the one in this post, are working. Would somebody double check thiers, for me, and post it here? = 0
