Urban legends have fascinated me since I first read Jan Harold Brunvand's excellent book on the subject, THE VANISHING HITCHHIKER. One of the most popular and definitive, and one of my favorites, is, of course, "The Alligators In The Sewers" -- baby alligators brought home as pets and later flushed down the toilet ... only to survive and grow to enormous size, preying on unlucky city workers and anyone foolish enough to venture beneath the city streets. I wanted to evoke a very visceral, documentary-like "you are there" feeling with this image. I hope I succeeded. I created it using Poser figures set up in Cinema 4D and rendered with global illumination and ambient occlusion (which took a full 24 hours to render). Postwork in Photoshop to enhance the atmospherics and touch up the lighting; optical flares and other lens effects were added in After Effects. Total time to create the image (not including the render time) was approximately sixteen hours. Thanks to the mods for coming up with such an inspiring subject, and best of luck to all the entrants!
