I build the airport with the idea that the only way you could fly at that time without being accused of heresy was if you belong to the church. With this in mind I developed a huge building, cathedral-like whose purpose was to go back and forth to Holy land. The ascension through all that steps (must be thousands) would have a religious meaning, some floors would have hostels with rooms for the royalty or nobles to "rest their souls" in their way up. Peasants and common people would have their own stair without rooms so they must rest or sleep wherever they find on the way to the top. Despite this ascension could take you a couple of days, the travel to Jerusalem though the air certainly make worth the effort, it would take you weeks instead of months or even years.
