Scene: Blinding white light, fades to repetitive highest speed strobe, draws back to reveal a spinning, shining disco ball – camera view drops and high-speed plummets, stopping with a judder to reveal a standard waiting room, filled with people. The camera slowly pans across the people: A middle aged business man, reading the New York Times; a young woman, breast-feeding a baby who is mostly covered by a baby blanket; a group of 4 pre-teens in soccer uniforms and a young man wearing a “#1 coach” shirt and hat; a battered woman, cowering; two teens, making out and being stared at by the soccer kids, and an elderly woman with a soft smile. A breath-taking redhead steps from behind the reception desk with a brilliant smile: “We’ll call you when we’re ready.” Fade out Fade in Redhead (speaking to the battered woman): “Good luck” [they embrace and, the battered woman smiles as she fades away] Redhead returns to waiting room alone and speaks: “Dana Stuebinger” [the woman who was breast-feeding stands, holding her child and follows the redhead] Redhead (speaking): “You’ll have to give Amelia to my assistant, Marc.” [handsome brown-haired young man steps into frame and gently takes the baby from Dana, who offers no resistance.] As Marc walks slightly out of frame, and sharp-eyed, attentive viewers will notice the special effect of the baby fading away in the same way the battered woman did. Close-up of Dana, her blue eyes are wide and show confusion and we hear muffled voices. Draw back and we see Dana seated on a chair. Redhead (speaking): “You stagnated, Dana. The last choice you made in your life was to kill Amelia and yourself.” Dana: “No, no I didn’t. I was going to do it… we were in the car and I was ready to do it, but I didn’t. We came here instead. Redhead (sighs) Redhead (speaking): “Please view the screen.” Focus on large screen and pull in until it fills the frame. Scene setting: typical house in the suburbs, late afternoon, emergency vehicles and personnel milling about, curious bystanders looking on. Cut to a man, at the kitchen table with his hands over his face, crying and a policewoman with her hand squeezing his shoulder supportively. Man (speaking, while still crying, in a low, hurt tone): “I told her I wanted a divorce. But I never expected her to…” [he breaks down again] Cut back to Dana and the redhead Dana (speaking – horrified “I didn’t! I didn’t! Where’s my baby!” Redhead (speaking - soothingly): “Amelia’s moved on. Now it’s you that I am concerned with.” Dana (speaking – almost hysterical): “Where the hell is my baby?” [the word “baby” comes out as a shriek] Redhead (speaking – calmly): “There is no hell. No heaven either. It’s not like that here. This is the waiting room. People come here when they die and then they begin their new journey.” Dana (jumps up and grabs the redhead by the arms): “Are you nuts? I am NOT dead! And I am getting the hell out of here and finding Amelia.” Redhead (speaking – neutrally): “As you wish.” [Redhead points to a door that wasn’t there before] Dana, with an incredulous look, runs for the door and yanks it open, running inside. Scene: Blinding white light Fade in. Dana is wearing a straight jacket. The redhead now looks like a nurse. Redhead (tapping her clipboard with her pen, speaks): “I’m sorry Dana. Until you are ready to deal with this, I have to place you in Time Out.” Dana (struggling – speaks): “What is this?” Scene: camera pans out slightly and we see that they are in a white room about the size of an average walk-in closet. Redhead (frowns slightly – speaks): “I just told you Dana, you are in Time Out. Once your thoughts are settled and you are prepared to deal with your situation, then we will discuss the next step in your journey. Goodbye.” Redhead steps back and exits the frame. Cut to Dana, fear, incredulousness and anger shifting over her features. Her face freezes in horror and despair. Dana (screaming): “No!” [draw out as long as possible] Camera zooms in to her face and then into her mouth, into the darkness and fading to light. As the scream stops, cut to black screen, pause, the words “The End” appear.
