Interview with bakapo

Renderosity: I like the quotes you chose for your bio esp the Picasso. What about creating like a child appeals to you?

bakapo: The Picasso quote is a favorite because art should be fun, it can be deep and moving, sure, but also fun. For me it's a way to get away from the world and be simple, imaginative, and have fun for a little while, again. Children live in a wonderfully, simple world and I envy their innocence.

Tell us you background: where do you live and what kind of work do you do? -how did you become a digital artist?

bakapo: I am female. I'm from Massachusetts. Art is just a hobby for me. I started posting on Renderosity when I found like people with like interests in digital art. Everyone was so supportive and nice here that it was easy to jump in and make friends.

I started with fractals and DazStudio just to see if I could do a few pretty images in my spare time. Then I bought a camera and decided to try photography. My favorite photos are macros. I switched to mixed media and using GIMP and IrfanView fairly recently. I find the challenge of layering separate bits and pieces (photos, png tubes, and brushes) fascinating and I'm pleased that people like what I'm doing.

Beauty

You have so many great pieces in your gallery. One of my favorites is "beauty". Can you tells us how this was created and what you were trying to do with this portrait?

bakapo: The image "Beauty" is just that; a beautiful woman with single, beautiful, red rose. She's alone but there's a certain beauty in being alone too, especially if you have a sweet memory to keep you company. I imagined her strolling along the the green fields remembering someone special... maybe he just gave her the rose. The lift of her shoulder is a shy pose so maybe it's a new love.

It's always up to the viewer to decide the story behind my images, I don't add story descriptions, I leave things open to interpretation. I'm glad you like this piece.
