Description

The Hawiian God Kanaloa

Son of Na' wahine and Kane, and married to Tapo. Kanaloa is the ruler of the oceans and all with, and consequently the ruler of the Mana. Kanaloa channels or funnels the Mana that comes from Io to Kane to Kanaloa. Since Kanaloa is the ruler of Mana, he is also invoked in some cases to alleviate or disperse disease (see the chant Pule Hee). Kanaloa is Lord of the South. When the Christian Missionaries arrived, they decided that Kanaloa was the devil, cast out of heaven. We do not believe that this was originally the case, since the Christian church has had a history of branding local deities as the devil, as for example, the god Pan in western Europe. Kanaloa is thought to be an incarnation of the Polynesian ocean god Tangora. ---

As they traveled about the island, Kanaloa complained of hunger and, turning to his older brother, said, Oh Kane! We keep on going and we are dying of hunger! Let us eat. Kane looked about and saw that there was no water for mixing their refreshment of `awa drink. He struck the earth with his staff and water gushed forth. When the two had eaten, they started on again along the highway. They had not gone far when Kanaloa wanted to eat again. The country through

Oh yes oh yes it's getting better and better!!! Totally gorgeous shot! But if I may, I'm really not keen on the frame here! It takes away from the pic IMHO!! But the shot itself is a real stunner!!! The lighting is superb and that red wood....oh man!!!
