Description

This is the view you see from Fremonts Saddle when looking east. These are the Superstitions. The same mnts that the Dutchman roamed. Rich in History and Death. Many have tried to find the Lost Dutchman, many have died, none have succeeded. Sacred to the Indians, ambush site of the Peralta Party, one surviver. Where Silverlock and Johnson discovered rotten leather bags filled with gold. Where Ruth found death, his head half a mile from his body. Miners have spent their whole adult life in here, looking for that Gold. Weaver's Needle, Miners Needle and the Old Spanish Trail are said to be markers The Heart marks the spot, some say. The 6 tablets were found as well as a cactus map. The Apache trail of tears runs along the edge. 1st water is a meeting spot. The Dons trail is at the other end. This is a harsh desolate place. Good health, Water and a lack of fear are needed to enter these hills. Make your will out before you go, if you plan to stay for any length of time. At night the coyote sings to the moon and the spirits walk the land. Beautiful, Barren and Empty. Enter if you want but be advised there are many old prospectors who are just a clue or two away from finding that gold. Stay out of their way, you might get shot at if you don't. ASA 100 OM-1 80mm

It does look trecherous out there! But so beautiful! I remember driving in the area where this is with my parents in the 60's. Thats when I first heard the story. But you have a way of bringing life to a picture the way you say it! Nice job Frank and great photo! :)

A barren country that might cause to lose me being Dutch :) Impressive work, each landscape has its own tales, happy or not!

Great story and photo. It is wonderful when people give a little bit of history to a shoot.
