Description
I've spent a lifetime searching
trying to find my way
and I'm still just as lost
as I was yesterday
I made a couple friends
had a family and a home
but I'm still out here a walkin'
down this old road alone
you can find someone to love you
someone to share your life
a wife for a husband
a husband for a wife
you can pledge undying love
with your semi precious stones
but when you hit that final road
you'll be walkin' alone
pardon me for asking
but don't it seem a little odd
how people keep on dying
and killing in the name of God
hey there mister preacher
I believe your cover's blown
wherever it is you're goin'
you're goin' there alone
there ain't no religion
gonna wash away your sin
there ain't nobody out there
waiting to take you in
you can spend your whole life prayin'
on your knees before the throne
but you're still gonna walk down that last road alone
yes we've all gotta walk down that that last road alone
I've knocked on heavens door
and there ain't nobody home
so when it's time to leave
when it's time to move on
we all gotta walk down that last road alone
yes we're all gonna take
that last walk alone
I wrote this originally as a song but I never got around to finding a decent melody.

As I read I heard the melody in my head. Too bad I can't write music. This is striking and would make a great song.
Excellent written work! I kept hearing Dylan's, "knockin' on heaven's door" in my head as a compliment to this piece.
As far as the melody I heard it too, as for the words they were well written and flowed easily from the tongue, yet this mind disagrees with what they said, for on every day for many different reasons that I have lost someone near and dear to me in death of the fleshEntirely alone they did not go, for a part of me went with them, and yet alone I do not remain for also a part of them remain/ed with me. Therefore, I suspect for each individual individually their chosen decision to perceive as believe could very possibly create their last road taken of this life. Will it be a lonely road as you suggest or just another road of conception as I suggest? To me the "choice" and not the road (for the road is a sure thing) is ours and ours "alone"and someday, we both shall surely know. Thank you for sharing.
Awesome song, truly inspiring. The lonely road is at our own discretion.
