Description
NOT "The Return of the Schlimblicks" after all!
These old houses are near the Maritime Museum and are some sort of administration Offices. Interesting architecture and brickwork.
I suppose now is the time for 'The History Lesson.' Saint Michaels' nickname is "The Town that Fooled the British." Intruiging, no? Goes back to the War of 1812. The town was a shipbuilding center for light craft and privateers. Thus the Royal Navy decided to teach the locals a lesson. However, the locals figured out what was coming, so they dowsed the lights in the buildings and hoisted lanterns on the masts of ships and up into trees. The ensuing nightly bombardment missed the mark almost entirely. One house was hit by one cannonball. It is still standing.
A neat bit of deception. No one seems to hold a grudge these days. Tourists from all over are welcome.
Enjoy: thanks for viewing.

Very interesting! Excellent shot!!!!
cool write up and very interesting history write up i am a history buff and that kinda thing does facinate me!!
shame they had to go and add that vinyl siding to ruin it's authenticity!
impressive and special architecture! love the green woodwork to the housewalls! it doesn't look so cold and bare, now more playful! ;o)
The thing that amuses me about that story is the bit about the Cannonball House. The cannonball went through the roof and rolled down the stairs and 'startled' the lady of the house. I'm not sure that 'startled' would be the word to describe it. A very nice piece of photography... one of my favorite houses in town. :)
