Description
Lately, I've been cursing the stormy South Florida skies for not letting me get any good night shots of the big full moon we have right now and other neat celestial phenomenon. However, when the storms do break, you sometimes get a rare opportunity for some dramatic cloud shots.
Just before sunset last week, the clouds overhead cleared a bit and the most bizarre light started emanating through our home's windows. I grabbed my camera and stepped outside into a surreal landscape. The golden light was intense, and contrasted with both the dark and lit up cloudbanks. To the north, the sun was reflecting off a small section of clouds and lighting it up theatrically. It reminded me a bit of some scenes from the movie Independence Day, and seemed like a good photo to post in anticipation of Steven Spielberg's upcoming War of the Worlds. And capturing the Belt of Venus along the horizon was an extra bonus. :')
What does it make you think of? Thanks for visiting and for your comments.

It looks as though something apocalyptic is about to happen, a great capture. Top marks!!
WOW!!! That is one superb capture!!!! Sooooo freakin moody!!! And the quality of the shot is simply put...PERFECT! Have a great day #:O)
Nice shot !
You know, this is exactly what I wish we had out here in LA from time to time. I just love weather. Staying indoors with the family, watching a movie while it's pouring outside....I guess to much of anything would eventually get old though. At least I get a chance to enjoy it through your pictures. Right now here in LA it is 65 degrees (dry heat) at 8:42 am and expected to reach 85 today. There are also scattered fires about Southern California. Who said we didn't have seasons! Our fire season officially begins on the solstice. Anyways, Great shot and beautiful moment. KP
If I wouldn't see the houses it might be another planet than earth!!! ;-))) GORGEOUS!
When I saw your title and thumbnail my first thought was: "Ah - Independence Day"... I'm happy to inform you that your photo is a LOT better than the movie!
It makes me think that the light in this scene is totally magnificent and that U should get a percentage for advertising for Spielberg like that! ;P
agree with tibet.. very spielberg.. feel storn creat a perfect cloud formation awesome capture and reflections.. :)...)))))))
An apocalyptic warning or revelation of a new dawn is the feeling I receive from viewing this image. Colours are excellent and you may want to use this sky again in another photograph as a backdrop. Just a thought since it is so movie like.
Wow! The lighting is to die for! What a wonderfully executed capture. Just gorgeous.
Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise is having their own war of worlds it appears over a water gun or something! Oh well...your picture is absolutely breath taking! VOTE!

They don't scare me... As I already said to the Commander, tell them to come and visit me in my house... We'll have a drink, chat about a few things, and, believe me, they cannot be worse than the guys working in our ministries. (Excellent shot!!!)
Wonderful lighting and colours - sorry I don't know the films :)

Yeah Kort! Excellent timing on this baby! Somtimes mother nature puts on a show for a short time, and it's up to us to take advantage of that brief show. Beautiful capture..it does look like the beggining of Independence day! Aloha!
