Dear Self,
I went to the Keane album signing show today. It was pretty damn awesome - they did four songs, and it didn't cost any money, other then the fuel charge for driving all the way to the Kingdom of the Rat (better known as Disney).
Before I went, my mother told me to "look how I would like to be seen."
So, last night, since I knew I was going today, I thought about that statement and went over the many wardrobe options in my head, as many females do when going to a big event. Granted this wasn't a gala, this was still big - Keane is my new favorite band, after all, my artwork being an example of this, and I wanted to look good.
I finally came to the conclusion as to what I would wear, and drifted off to sleep.
So, this morning, I dressed myself how I wished to be seen: my baggy jeans with the handcuff decal, black tank top with my 60's smiley pin, my cross, and the circa 1982 spiked bracelet that was given to me by my mother.
I wasn't the prettiest girl there, nor was I the one with the shortest skirt and highest heels.
Yet, I was myself, and that's the only way I'd want to be seen.
As Tom Chaplin sang, his eyes met mine for a brief moment and a smile crossed his face as he saw I was singing along with him. Surprising as it was to me, I was the only one who knew all the words.
By looking at me, you'd never think I'd listen to them, let alone know each song by heart.
Then again, there's a lot that one wouldn't think, by simply looking at me.
But that's alright...
...It leaves surprises for those who take the time.
See ya next time, Diary.

:) The underlying point is clear. It's true isn't it for all of us, and yet how convenient to judge by the outside. Egotistic as it may sound, I often feel like a sword that's sheathed, yet restless in the scabbard, but looking at the scabbard, it's both dull in appearance and without edge. :}
Anyone who wears a 60's smiley pin and something given to them by their mother has to be great! WINK. Excellent written piece!
"Who else would I be?": a great statement, one that many should get into their heads. I see so many "wanna-be"'s walking around that look just like everyone else, and it makes me wonder if that is truly who they are.
