Description
This orange-brown dragonfly is a Scarce Chaser found at the same place as the Four-spotted Chaser. Only this one is very scarce, placed on the redlist of endangered insects in Europe. Most beautiful when you see her fly with an orange-gold shimmering in the sun. You can see the third chaser at Enmos gallery. These chasers have the oldest design of all dragonflies.
More dragonhunting now! Although you can see dragons from as early as april until late november. May and june are the favourite month's; newly hadged fresh individuals. If you are lucky you might find a dragon that just hadged, she isn't going anywhere till she's dry.
With temperatures below 20 degr. Celsius, dragons like to sit down more frequently. If the sky is partial cloudy, even better; they sit down and wait for the sun. In a full sunny summer you have to get up early to see them doing a warming sunbath. Above 25 degr. it's increasingly difficult to aproach them; so you have to be very patient then. A sudden drop of temperature on a very hot day by an incoming thunderstorm could be very useful :)
Next time more dragonhunting!

oh - wow - that's an awesome capture... i like it a lot - how big is this one?!? i can imagine how it looks if it's flying...!
Fabulous creature and macro !
Awesome capture Ric, amazing detail here !!! Superb !! I think ive seen this one as well but couldnt get a shot of it... At the same place i saw indeed a couple of Four-spotted Chasers, i have a few shots but not the quality i like. They are especially spectacular in beauty even better then this one or the Broad-bodied Chaser, i HAVE to get a good shot... ;o))
incredible macro Ric and it is a pleasure to see an insect that may become extinct
Nice dynamic lines.. only the background could be more blurred.
Another excellent image. Thanks so much for sharing this rare find. The dragonflies have not come to my place yet this year..wait and see.
