In Indian temple dancing all the movements of the body and especially the hands have religious and mystical(and tantrick-magickal?)meanings.In Kathakali these are called 'Asamyutha Mudras'or single hand gestures and there are 24.Here are the first 12.On top is the name and below are some of the meanings.Kathakali hand gestures are assigned differently from the ones that the rest of India uses.
