Description
This is just down from USHS SANCTUARY. In fact, she's just off the right of the image.
This is an old grain elevator which is on its way down. One of the conveyer belts collapsed over winter, and demolition crews finished the job.
The construction equipment is clearing the area for luxury Pulte homes... definitely upscale. This section of town is Locust Point. Its most famous landmark is behind us about 1 km / .5 mi.: Fort McHenry. We will visit, but I'm having too much fun just tooling around town on such a nice day.
I think it's time to take a closer look at the old elevator while it's still here. This is a fine overall image, but this thing is impressive!
(OK, sightseeing quiz time. The chimney across the harbor and the white buildings below it... look familiar?)
Enjoy; thanks for viewing.
How many of you spotted the outside stairs on that thing? What a climb!

Too much of our industrial landscape is disappearing to the bulldoser. Eric Bower's soap faactory is in the process of coming down and the dynimate factory power plant is under deconstruction the last two weeks. Of seven buildings and structures I have photographed since January, none remain. Please photograph more of this, especially get in closer. Wear a construction hat and look like one of the crew. Be bold! Save images of ourlanscape.

Dear TW, This shot could easily have been taken here in Houston. We've got lots of grain elevators - and most of them are sufferingthe same fate as this one. One very near downtown has been spared and is now lofts. Most of them are disappearing though. The skyline keeps changing! Excellent work!! Love, Meredith
