Description
Your first thought must be WTF is this?!? While on vacation to Long Island my partner discovered this bird that had been tangled in a discarded balloon. Poor thing could not escape the ribbon and eventually succumbed to it. I don't want to get on the soap box here, but a picture is worth a thousand words....Pick up your rubbish and don't litter! Someones, or somethings life may depend on it. This image dedicated to kozy553 the HB, for finding this and and urging me to post this.
Thanks for your many comments and critiques on my last posts. Aloha!

This is an eye opener. My first thoughts and impression was that of fishing and the entanglements of nets and dolphins. Thanks for reminding us of what left litter or rubbish can do to kill our environment in all ways. Aloha
Yeah, at first I thought it was some kind of indian head dress that bit the dust. Yes, people, keep it clean. Aloha Aina.
What a sad reminder of the importance of this issue!!! Thanks for the wake up call!!!!!! Excellent message!!!!!! ;)
Makes one think.Sad,but so many things interfere with nature. Thanks for the eye opener.
I remember as a child in science class, we would release balloons with our school's address. The people who found them were supposed to write back and tell us where they'd come down. I'm glad our kids are learning more about taking care of the environment in science class now :)
Awe, poor birdie. #:o( I agree with previous commentators, that is just sad, and unfortunatly you see that kind of thing wherever you go. Thanks for bringing some focus to that issue. Enjoy your day #:O)
oh!!! awwwe... wonder if the balloon had floated off & the bird got it or what... terrible struggle i'm sure
cool shot! love the colors and pov!!! excellent detail in the shadows! veyr well captured!!!
:( it's a sad picture... but how could one think a baloon would kill anything? Of course we all have to keep our rubbish... but baloons tend to get free from the hands of children. Just yestarday I saw a huge "Nemo" baloon flying free in the sky with a small kid running after it... :)
yes poor thing was probably going to use some of this for nesting material and got caught up.. A good reminder that as most of us here are nature lovers and take care of the environment.. But I have seen people crashing around near nests etc and not thinking of the consequences
the lightning an dthe shadows are very good and teh composition too. it's an excellent photography. have a good day
mmm looks as if this has been collected by birds for nesting.. pure art in nature well seen and fantastic p'graphy :) excellent
Being a Man of the Sea...yep....one Mans Rubbish is not always a Home for a Crab...more like a slow agonising Death...will We ever Learn :[
Such a sad image, Dave! Indeed an eye opener! Very well done on the shot and statement! Bravo!
very sad story and you are right when you say a pic can tell more than words! :o)
Thats an amazing find but also a very sad one.... People should stop littering this earth, but... its probably a waste of time telling them most are too stupid to even care... sigh :(( Superb work here David !!
Quite a history in this little tableu, excellent find!
Sad thing to see, got that impression indeed of the remnants of a bird. A great way to ask attention for the danger of litter!
