Description

Now *this* is one big bird.... It rattled the windows as it flew over my home. Note the empty missile rails and the external fuel tank: He's stripped for a distance run. Do you think that maybe he made it all the way from San Diego to Mountain View without refueling? Thanks for stopping by.

Nice picture. But this is an F15.

Yep! F-15. Do you live near an airfield? Since the landing gear is down he either is just landing or taking off. As you already noted, the missile rails are empty, so he's not on a patrol flight, but either an airshow or training flight.

A+ for having your camera ready when it came by. A+ for actually getting your camera to shoot at just the right moment and A+ for it coming out as good as it did! I am sharing this with my son. Growing up this is how I made a connection with him (me being a 'girl' and all I had to dig for something we could both relate to and enjoy). He came to know all of the commercial and military jets! He'll like this.

Huh, no kidding it's a '15? How do you tell from the bottom? I thought the "chines" along the fuselage forward of the wings were indicative of the '18. Well, that would explain why it was so damn LOUD! I live along the approach to Moffet Airfield, and shot this with a 380mm lens.

I confirm it's a F15 .. make a little search and you'll note the differences. But it's great shot, I think a bit hard to shot a subject so fast ... 380mm ? which camera ? 380mm it's typical focal of ultrazoom digital compact ( like my Olympus C740UZ)

I'm joining in the aircraft identification comments. F-18 has more round air intakes, the wings end in missle rails for AIM-9 or Aim-11s. The F-18 also has angled verticle stablilizers while the F-15 has them perpendicular to the wing. The F-18 also has angled landing gear for landing on Aircraft Carriers and a tail hook. And finally the F-18's engine exhaust are almost touching. F-15 is Air Force, F-18 is Navy. Awesome picture.

Well, it's a known fact now that this is an F15, so, I'll just give it a two thumbs up for a fantastic shot.

Hehe, I think that you get the point that it is an F-15, so I'm not going to mention it once again. Nice shot. Wish these kind of birds were flying around here...
