Description
I know, the common name for the male is a contradiction.
Contrary to popular belief, the male Black Widow is rarely eaten after copulation with the Female.
This is the first time I have ever seen the male of the species. The little bugger got away after only 6 shots. He got out of my sight through the lens and was crawling towards me so I jumped out of the way and lost him in a crack.
I didn't want to come in contact with this thing even though I know it isn't poisonous like the female.

Creepy, great capture!
I must mantion that I did desaturate the background to bring out the red on the abdomen. I also did some blurring.
WOW! great capture!!! freeky one and dangerouslly
A very cool shot Matt! Fantastic postwork: the red pops off the desaturated background and grabs me! Bravo! :)
Not so sure I would want it sticking around more than 6 seconds, let alone 6 shots... Nice work and presentation!
saw the pp and it's adding on the image :) great capture!
EEK..lol @ doug...you did well Matt...:)

You have these guys living in your house??! shudder An awesome shot Matt!
Yay, what a hunk! :D Gorgeous little thing. You did great on the postwork as well as capturing him, Matt :))
OMG OMG OMG!! U're nuts! I'll be dead just to know it's around me, somewhere!! But I guess we all can be thankful to people like u for taking so many risks just to have an amazing shot! ;)
fantastic capture!!bravo!!Vote!:DDD
ohh, very scary ... this would be awesome for a halloween pic. ;)
The spider is not poisonous and it was not in my house. It was outside so I trapped it in a bowl. It manage to crawl out of the bowl while I was taking shots.
You are so Brave Runabun....and it was wise to retreat...another Day :]
Just a little too close for my liking. Not the sort of spider I normally find hiding under the rim of my toilet bowl thankfully! Great shot!
Hehe, very visual story, can see ya jump :) LOL. Terrific shot dispite the shaking feelings ;)
& it's a male cuz... ? ...if it were me i'd think it was a female even though it doesn't have the hourglass red cuz i'd be freakin out... but would definately try for a shot first :] & you did super xcellent on this!
It's a male because it is considerably smaller than the female and it has markings on the back of the abdomen as opposed to the underside. The male has a few red markings while the female has only two - most of the time forming an hour-glass shape.
super shot !!!!
Creepy looking thing! But an excellent capture for sure! :)
