Another argument, more silence.
Tristan knew he loved Laura but he just couldn't understand her. She was so full of life and so intelligent, but so contrary to everybody around her. Like her insistance in wearing pants and boots like a man so that everybody could see every curve! It was unseemly! But god how he loved her. If he could only make her see that she couldn't flaunt convention and still be accepted in society. What was he to do???
For her part Laura knew she loved Tristan but how could she explain that she didn't belong in this time? That an accident of fate had sent her back 3 centuries to a time not her own. How could she ever explain that she didn't belong, not in this now. Would she ever fit in??
What a puzzle. How would they ever solve it.
