Description

The MR5 Ganges and its attendant Mars Mule are traversing the large crater, Gustav. This crater is one of the larger ones on Mars and so one never has the sense of it being a crater. Up ahead lies the little crater with the Columbia Memorial Station still within it. They will pass to the left or north of it. Behind them is the Columbia Hills and the Mars Rover Spirit. Although the Matronauts feel a very real kinship with this region, they will not visit the historic sites, as they usually do when passing through this area. They have an engagement to explore Ma'adim Vallis, an ancient channel that flows into the southern side of Gustav. Their destination is at the origins of that valley, which might have been cut out by water runoff and possibly turned Gustav into a small sea eons ago. Background is a black and white photo by NASA/JPL's Mars Rover Spirit taken just a few days ago. Foreground is a terrain created from the lower half of the original photo. Everything else is by me. For the record, I prefer color pictures, but when I get a background that is this fine in black and white, I'll gladly forsake color. Thanks for looking.

This is really nice. I really like it. The black-n-white aspect of it also makes for great atmosphere. Excellent work!

Unsurpassable, as always. It is awesome to consider that portions of any such work incorporates elements of actual photographs of another planet. If only we could be there, even with an old brownie black and white box camera with its factory set overexposure. LOL.

Fine work , the black and white gives it a "documentary" touch.

I really love good greytone stuff,I've done a few myself. Great models and a very good job of matching the photo background with your CG elements.
