Another render I did while Beta testing Strata 3D CX.
Radiosity rendered with HDR (.exr image mapped to the new LightDome) and no other light sources.
Chess pieces modeled with either the lathe tool or the bezier tool.

Nice job, I like the sepia tones.
Chess sets are so metaphorical. I look at this and try to find out which pieces I don't want to be (the pawn, Queen, and King), which piece I wouldn't mind being (the rook), which piece I want to be (the knight), and which piece I am (?). I went to work last night and I was one of each of these pieces at least once. I was checked, I checked, noone ever checkmated, and I came home angry. And I wonder which piece I am now ... and how I could have played differently last night.

Wonderful work, as always! I really like the artsy finish -- it looks like an illustration rather than a perfect, austere 3D render. My only suggestion would be for you to add a little more variety to the board textures. They look too repeated and identical from square to square. Even rotating the textures would break it up a bit. And, once again, Im picking nits this is another stunning image and its difficult to find ways to improve it.
WOW - what gorgeous "Big Uns" - so round, so firm, so fully developed - surely they are silicone enhanced and...oh wait, wrong picture! Sorry Howie, I simply couldn't resist after your dig on my "Eyes" tutorial - seems one has to hint at things sexual to get noticed these days...lol. I really love this render my friend because it portrays the thinker's game of chess so beautifully. Your 3D knowledge just never ceases to astound me which is why it's easy to see why Strata 3D has you Beta testing it's programs. The reflective qualities of the pieces are so masterfully done. Cool stuff. I like the king. It kind of looks like the Space Needle, or that building in Las Vegas. Nice modern design.
