It was probably the way she cackled. That's why they didn't take her seriously. There she was, with nowhere left to run and looking at life on a prison planet. And yet all she could do was laugh with frantic abandon. "Come one step closer," she said, the words barely audible amid her guffaws, "and I swear where you're going, you'll never come back!" They, of course, hadn't followed her across three universes just to back off on an empty threat made under duress. So they drew their weapons and went to apprehend her. That's when she hit the switch and the world blinked. Suddenly everything was bright lights and green and sunny and nothing made sense. The air had an odd taste and the sting of sunlight wasn't merely uncomfortable, it was alien. They had no idea what had happened. For a time they wandered disoriented. But no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't get their bearings. Nothing in the sky looked familiar, nothing on the horizon offered a clue. Then all at once, with the sudden, noisy arrival of creatures that hadn't existed in centuries pulling a vehicle that couldn't possibly be real they realized they'd misheard her. That the laughter had mangled the words... She didn't say 'where'. She said 'when'...
