Description
Now a year has passed, since I have started to create this picture.
At that time, Liz Birdsong (Mehndi) asked me if i would create the models seen in the oil painting "The Lady of Shallot",
as i created some models for her new book. I had a look at this painting and was fascinated.
Of course, i know that it is impossible to build an oil painting precisely in 3d.
You have to model every tree, every grass in foreground and every wave of the river precisely.
Nevertheless, I have tried to approach so closely as possible to the original.
So I modelled the boat, stairway steps, cross, the foliage sheets in the water and a lot of other little details.
Then I needed more than one month to create the blankets on the boat.
I also found no suitable dress for Vicky3.
Therefore, I have modified Steve Shanks Classic Dress,
Then I started to create a material for the water in the picture and later the athmosph

Some outstanding texture and modeling. The blanket is just awesome! Excellent!
This is strange because I had thought it would be good to model just this painting - it's a favourite of mine - and I've seen this almost by accident as I don't usually look at Vue or Mythology. You've done an excellent job! Well done.
This is just amazing Helmut! I had never seen the painting before but I was impressed with your rendition even before I saw it. Your models are flawless and this is just so beautiful! ~Nathalie
I recognized this immediately and Helmut, you have created a Masterpiece! Everything is so finely detailed and gorgeous. I can see why this would take a lot of painstaking work but you have really achieved an awesome image. Bravo Helmut!!!
This is really a masterpiece. Everything is just perfect and the story around it shows your dedication to perfection. I am sure that you will continue to work on this labor of love. BRAVO HELMUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW!!! Helmut, you did a terrific job. IMHO the efforts definately paid off, and to my it looks just perfect as it is. Kudos! :)))
I remember exercises like this (copying old works) in art class, one really learns a lot by doing that - looks like you've pushed the CG medium quite supurbly. Excellent modeling and details V
Fabulous work, the models are excellent!
yah i remeber that painting, good work...
Excellent, especially the vegetation, the water, lighting and the rug in the boat. v
Great try of the master Waterhouse painting
very nice pre-Raphaelite work..;)
A year well spent. :)
Damn, I was going to have a go at that picture myself! You've done a brilliant job here, though and I'm not sure I would have had the patience to work on it for a year. Well done :0)

Excellent work. The flame on the candle - wonderful.
Simply magnificent - even if I've seen all those little steps leading to this final image. Incredible work, dear!
Really nice done. I like the details (leafs on the water, etc.).
EXCELLENT!!!
I like your rendition better than the original! Excellent job of modeling!
One of my favorite songs by Loreena McKennitt. You've done an excellent job recreating the scene. I think you've captured the essence quite well.
Hey,....I know that painting. You pretty much nailed it right on the money. Superb !
Wow...what a marvelous work, Helmut! Excellent job of recreation here along with your painstaking attention to detail makes this a definite vote-grabber! ==steve==
