Description
Here is another photo taken at the ruins of Tulum, a mighty Mayan seaport city and religious center near Playa del Carmen on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The ruins were by far the most excavated of any we saw on our trip, but they were also the most tourist-ridden. The stark stone structures have been dug out and rebuilt, and were quite impressive.
The Maya have long since left Tulum and the primary residents of this ancient enclave are the iguanas who can be seen around every turn. This one posed for me atop a crumbling stone ediface so I obligingly took a photo. I love the detail in the stone and the negative space it and he create against the sky.
Olympus C-3030 Zoom, minor touch up in Photoshop.

Love the photo, and the little guardian sitting there. To think of the tremendous human effort to build that in stone only to have this guy sit on it like a throne. Hehe.... :c) Excellent image.
