Description

Finally completed this scene that I have been working on and off of for about 2 months now. It's a scene based on a small village in the south of France called Valbonne that I have frequented many times when living there, and it was also inspired by the many works by Leonard Wren. The whole scene was box modelled from one cube primitive. All the buildings were UV unwrapped using Bodypaint R2 and textured in Photoshop using textures from the 3D Total collection, free textures and images from the net (faces done by Roger Merrill and Garry Limuti @ merrillpaint.com) and some of my own. The total number of texture layers is well over 60 and amounts to 47 MB in size, despite heavy compression. The lighting is HDRI/GI based with a spot light for the sun. I recommend you also look at the high resolution version for the details, you can find it here: http://www.dez3d.com/online_stuff/Valbonne High.jpg Thank you for viewing!

Once again you astound all. The technical side of this image being a subdiv model makes me appreciate teh time you spent on it even more. Since it isn't a reflective sphere or a matrix extrude project I'm not sure how the kiddies here are gonna take it. Cheers! Great Job!

Thanks all! Much effort was put into this, and Im very happy you all like it. Ace, Im on a PC, P4 2.6GHz with 1Gig of memmory. I had to run this render in two passes, one with anti-aliasing and one without and later merge them as Cinema removes much bump detail from flat (perpendicular surfaces) twards the cam with AA enabled. The non-AA one took about 9 hours to render and the AA-version about 23 hours, despite tweeking the GI settings (about 15 min to render the scene untextured with area shadow enabled).

You well caught the lights atmosphere; its something I struggle with now. But I won`t use so advanced techniques yet. Lucky you!
