Description
When I worked in the woods, we called these "widowmakers". A tree that, for no apparent reason, just falls. No wind, no rain, no nothin'. Just down it comes. Over the years they've earned their name. This old alder has split another pair, they'll be down before too long. Thanks for looking, comments welcome.

Just natures way of recycling I guess. Nice shot and lovely colours and textures.
its alright, im just use to something with more color ya know just a bit more vivid. but good on you mate
Geee Whiz! No wonder the Teddy Bears stay with Me....it is too Dangerous in the Woods....and My Ex was a Widower Maker...I am still in hiding. Get the Chain Saw out Man....there is a small Fortune in Billiard Cues here!
I always have this perputual argument about nature...is it chaos or is there some order to it? It's a perfect cycle dictated to by the seasons and elements and never, ever boring. So much is taken for granted now but nature will always win in the end. By the way...have a look at "Monolith" my latest upload...there's a surprise for you. DA
Good depth here. I think this background would be great for a portrait.
what goes up, eventually comes down & the process continues to replenish the soil... you have kind of a fractal going on here with all the branches, nice moss too... & better then alright :]
what a beautiful shot, Jim. very well done. !!!!!!! :O) !!!!!!!
Yeah....this is an amazing shot JIM. Very well done my friend. Excelent work !!!!!!:O)!!!!!!
Cordially, Beno RobergeVery interesting the story of the widow maker. A lovely image too! Love the green of the moss and how it stands out against the orange of the split tree. Thank you for sharing! Redundant has a point, this would make a lovely backdrop for a portrait! :) Hugs
love the image...reminds me once again of Colorado. (it seems the only time they'd fall there was in the middle of the night when we were camping and the crack the breaking trunk made always woke me up. hehe)
Love the woods....Dont get to take enough walks in them lately though. Seems like I did much more when I was living in Pennsylvania.Very nice "woodsy" shot!
Now this is nature... all has it's reason and is good for something... never knows. Wonderful capture and thoughtful words too. hugs
Thank god, none of them did hit you! Any idea on why they come down? Rotten roots, parasites or the like? Just age ... which will have all of us coming down one day? Anyways ... wonderful impression from over there. Thank you Jim!!
Excellent Jim, love the colours
Love your clever title as well...!
I see this alot in my travels. Sure makes the forest floor more interesting, and is also very nessesary. Excellent shot Jim.
