::: Part 3 of the MCAS Miramar Airshow 2003 Series :::
Taken at MCAs Miramar down in San Diego, California during the annual airshow (October 18, 2003)
The United States Navy Flight Demonstration Team the Blue Angels would not be as ear shattering loud and thrilling if the solo aircraft were not there. Blue Angels #5 and #6 often will split off from the main 4 and do their own stunts demonstrating the F/A-18 Hornet's power. From Knife Edge Passes to low flying high speed surprise passes.. the solos know how to get your attention. Here, Solo #5 makes his way over the show center. One amazing thing about aircraft is the vapor trails. Essentially, the aircraft are moving so fast in the moist air that they disrupt the water molicules in the air... making them condense. Thus you create trails of disruption which are essentially clouds. Here the solo makes a tight turn, which created the vapor around the wing root area.
Camera is a digital Minolta Dimage 7hi (5 MP). This image has been shrunk down to 33% of the original full size. Manual Focus, custom White Balance, Priority to Shutter mode (1/2000), and custom contrast/exposure value settings to help in the harsh sunlight.
