Description
*Keeping up appearances
Keeping up with the Jones'
Fooling my selfish heart
Going through the motions
But I'm fooling myself
I'm fooling myself
Cause you say you love me
And then you do it again, you do it again
You say your sorry's
And then you do it again, you do it again
Everybody thinks you're well
Everybody thinks I'm ill
Watching me fall apart
Falling under your spell
But you're fooling yourself
You're fooling yourself
Cause you say you love me
And then you do it again, you do it again
You say your sorry's
And then you do it again, you do it again
And again and again and again and again
But you're fooling yourself
You're fooling yourself
Cause you say you love me
And then you do it again, you do it again
You say your sorry's
And then you do it again, you do it again
You say you love me
And then you do it again, you do it again
You say your sorry's
And then you do it again, you do it again
And again and again and again and again...*
Travis, "Re-Offender"
---------------
chalks on ruvid paper, real size 25 per 35 cm.
-----------------------------
This is the first experiment in chalks I feel like posting, after the piece of last year "Sketch for PK"and my September theme image "Secretive"I only uploaded in the Forum 2D Gallery. Well, I have much to do there but I am fascinated by the medium possibilties in terms of changin from realism to expressionism. And so there you go.. something a bit new among my usual stuff...Or maybe not? ;)
This image of sorrow was made in my days of mourning the past week, for reasons your lovely hearts have already shared and so lovely both in my Memorial pic posted in my gallery and in so many tributes you dear people dedicated in your galleries to my bad days.
To show you I am out of that haze, I chose to link the image to a song and not to a personal poem of mine, a song that I am loving to pieces lately, since I firstly heard it weeks ago (hear it too if you haven't yet.. it's so well sung...).
Then this image of sorrow, you see, can underline also a story of trashed love, like the one of the song. But at least isn't anymore to remind of a departure that nothing sadly can change.
I thought the song fitted the image well. Or maybe I just wanted to promote Travis ;) one of my fav band :P
Enjoy and get ready for more chalks experiments.
If I will get better with this, well it will be merit of the lovely Forum 2D members and of disa, who pushed me firstly to try more chalks :)
And of all of you who, knowing the medium, will be so sweet and kind to give me useful inputs to follow. :) Thanx in advance.

This is beautiful chalk work that portraits the emotion so well. As I have indicated to you before, it makes me sad to see unhappy Angels, and I hope to see this one smile soon. :-)
oh, chalks! it's SO beautiful in your hand. I could never get the faces like you do, just perfect, meli! ...i'm voting!
such emotion! beautiful! VOTE
I really like this, the rough textured paper and the grittiness of the chalk really add to the emotional intensity of the image. Wonderful art.
Wonderful and emotional work!!! Bravo!!!
Outstanding artwork! Beautiful always!!
Excellent, Meli. Love the free-flowing style and the depth of tone and powerful emotions worked into this image. This is a difficult medium to work with, and you've done a wonderful job with this image. Keep smiling: and keep on experimenting with this medium.
Dear Meli...I love your use of chalks here. They serve to further emphasize the raw emotion in your sketch. It has always been my firm belief that only those who have experienced pain and suffering, both emotional and physical, can truly understand all the elements of of grief. I remember when my husband and I were trying so hard to have children. After 8 years of trying and finally giving up, I became pregnant. 6 weeks later, I lost my sweet child, I didn't understand it then...how could God put me through this...why would He. Then about 6 years later, my mother died. I knew then as I know now that the loss of my first child prepared me for the loss of my mother. Everything happens for a reason...something we can learn from if we would take that step and live through the pain. God has something for you here Meli...something to learn from...someone who will need your genuine compassion, love and experience. Thank you for letting us share that pain. We all grow from it as well...Cheryl
Wonderful work! The emotion expressed both in your writing and drawings is heartfelt and inspirational. Thank you for sharing.
I can feel the saddness......I am praying that Love will fill your heart soon Meli, HUGS
Your work is powerfully portraid in the emotions we could do without but we would all be 'lesser' with out ?.This shows us why we love,- we care and if we didnt and these events went unburdened then love wouldnt exhist at all!Brilliant touching work Meli, byeeeeeeee calum5
Whole atmosphere is one big movement of sorrow: the way she hold her head, the way the dress is falling, the way how she put her legs...
fine and great draw
Everything had been written above and I agree but I'll add my own feeling : Magnificent, the face and the all image gives an impression of sorrow. You are the the best to espress the human being emotions. Marvellous artwork !
Questo troppo bello per cui te lo dico in italiano : toccante, profondo e mi fa riflettere !!!! Insomma arte e io ne voglio ancora !!!! ciao bacioni Debby ^_^
:) just enjoying being in your gallery, going back and forth. Admiring, enjoing. YOu're incredable!
Considering the medium, this is an excellent work. This work has been done with a heart.... not with a chalk or using hands. I can prove it. Anyone that views it, please view the eye and the face.... even though there isn't much detailing there , it shows sorrow, helplessness, dejection.... and yeah the legs and the hands...... truly hopeless and sorrowful. Great work Mel..... keep it up. You seem to be doing way cool with this medium. :):):)
Triste e accorato, ma un angelo ha sempre le ali, e nel tuo lavoro esse sono aperte e si stanno preparando per un nuovo volo :) Tra un po' la brezza sarfavorevole.. Beautiful as always Meli huggles :)
Oh my gosh...this is just stunning - and, I'm not sure, but something different here? Some new freedom, perhaps? I think this chalk suits you emminently well.
i like the way you cut the picture to such an emotional value and not so much a technical picture, black&white pics show more dept in emotion(i think) and the way you portraid the angel, the face is brillent, the distant look on it, and i can almost see the dry remnents of dried out tears.
Excellent Artwork!!!Like her expression and the emotion's...Love this painting very very much...:)
Meli meli... wonderful..
Superb artwork, I can feel her sorrow just by looking at this.
Hi Meli! So many comments... /// Do not know, if it's me allowed, to write something: A little bit lecherous in all her sorrow?! Pain and selfdestruction, oh yes, can be this... Excellent facial expression of her! Beautiful angel!
Great work :) (bel lavoro ,gallimel :) )
A beautiful drawing.
this is very touching, i can see myself in it...great work......
This brings another dimention to your work and may I say one I like.
So wonderful...that the angel is made in chalk gives it yet another depth into your collection of angels and fairies...wonderful honey :) In a way it reminds me of the mother and her child you made some months ago. It's like this is the angel that grieves with the mother.
I agree with Akinom.. the pose and expression deeply touched my heart! excellent work
