Millicent figured that if Cinderella could get a prince to scour the kingdom looking for her just by dropping a glass slipper, she ought to be able to get this prince to go sleepless trying to find her by dropping an even more inviting item of apparel.

amethyss: I have created this kind of carpet effect in the way you suggest, but this time, because I was modeling the stairs in wings3D, I simply cut that section from the stairs, separated it, and expanded it ever so slightly. Thus, the carpeting is a separate object group. From a higher angle, you would see that it runs all the way to the door in background.
