Dan's passing really hit me hard, as I know it did many here. Kind of wierd, though, as we never met in person, but, I know that with the rapport we had here, we certainly would have been good friends had we been neighbors. Just one of those things one knows, I guess.
So, the loss I am feeling is really one that results from knowing that I will now never get to meet him in person, shake his hand, look him in the eyes, and tell him what a great artist I think he is, much less thank him for being so supportive. I am learning now that a loss of "what might have been" is possibly one of the most severe losses one can experience.
There is a lesson here, though, and that is the message I wish send to all here who knew him, knew of him, or, are just viewing this piece and wondering what the point of it really is:
Live every single day as if it were your very last; love those who are close to you, try to love those who are not, and never, EVER, allow yourself to spend even one single day taking this precious gift of life for granted.

I won't use this comment to expound upon your wonderful skills in Strata 3D, (of which I also apologize for my prior e-mail, when with Dan on my mind, I accidently referred to your expertise being in Cinema4D) you my friend are well aware of my opinion of your abilities in 3D. This gorgeous tribute to our mutual friend is not only a gesture of honor but an exceptionally fitting render that expresses the meaning of life via the sands of time. Death is a rather abstract conceptualization - up until it either strikes too close to home - or it actually invades the home, then it becomes an all too gruesome unpredictable reality. Your connotation of " Love those who are close to you, try to love those who are not, and never, EVER, allow yourself to spend even one single day taking this precious gift of life for granted. " is 1000% accurate my friend, and something we would all do well to remember - more so the people who show no humanity by publicly insulting another's hard work. An absolutely beautiful and thoughtful tribute Howie.
i never talked to dan or something like that , so i had no special connection to him.he just gave me some real kind comments on my pics .but i think it`s really nice how the people honor him around here .this is the best of the tribute-pics i saw on renderostiy.
