Description

The Curtiss-Wright XP-55 "Ascender", along with the Vultee XP-54 "Swoose Goose" and Northrop XP-56 "Black Bullet", resulted from Army Air Corps proposal R-40C calling for unconventional aircraft designs. All prototypes were "pushers" (i.e. had their propeller at the back), and none showed any real military potential. But they all flew! Here is a "what if" picture with an Ascender on the tail of a Messerschmidt 262 A1 above the Frankfurt airport (you can see the airfield on the left of the image). Mesh and texture of the Messerschmidt by Amalthea. Mesh of the "Ascender" by Pascal Olice - custom Bryce texture by me (DUO) based on pictures of the real aircraft. Rendered in Bryce 4 and postproduced in Photoshop 7 and Illusion. As always votes, comments and ranks are warmly welcome... :-)

Im sure pilots would not like this, as if they have to bail out, they can get ripped apart by propeller. And all pilots are affraid of such things.

Nice, you ever seen an aircraft made in the 1950's called "The Flying Flapjack" ? Don't know what the official designation was. Very strange.

Very well realized! I wonder though, were the guns really in the canard wings? I would have thought they'd be in the nose, like a P-38.
