Powered by the 53,000 lbs(max)thrust throttable XLR-99 engine using 18,000 lbs of liquid oxygen and ammonia in 83 seconds (max) Early X-15's used two XLR-11(X-1)engines burning liquid oxygen and alcohol. The program ended in 1968. That's the original Wright Flyer in the lower right corner
