Description

Hee Hee.I'll bet you thought the victory model does not work in poser. After converting to an obj in deep exploration there are still a few flaws in the sails, but it looks pretty good.I used cinema 4d to steal a few sails to apply to the constitution class frigate from viewpoint.

Sorry, Lava, as a naval historian/nautical artist, and having spent 10 years in the navy, I can say this scene needs more work, in the form of research, this doesn't work. One, the small American ship is not the Constitution (in fact, I am creating a realistic Constitution in Cinema right now. See the Cinema Gallery for a WIP of one of the Constitution's cannons I have done). It doesn't have the right amount of cannons, and it doesn't look at all like Old Ironsides, more like a Ship-rigged, 18 gun, Sloop of War. Smaller than a frigate. Two, the HMS Victory was never in battle with any American ships. Three, the Victory is not scaled right. It would be 3 times the size of the other ship. Four, too many flags on the Victory's masts. Only one should be flying from each mast. Hackster created the extra sails and flags so anyone could put the ship in different weather situations, not to render all the sails and flags together. Five, the uniforms are not correct. The officers uniforms are supposed to be from the 19th Century, and the sailors uniforms are from the 20th Century. Six, on the American Sloop of War, the flags are flying the wrong way. It all is a nice idea, but needs more work.

I think you've done a marvelous job lava :) When I first saw your pic I thought - man did this guy have a ton of memory to pull this off in Poser! Congrats on a beautiful render lava :)!

FitArtistSF, are you serious? I'm laughing at the utterly anile manner in which you nit-pick.If I were submitting to a historical textbook your criticism would be more appropriate. He he,I'll bet you own efforts were never greeted so harshly.

It is often necessary to use whatever is available to represent the objects of the scene. Who knows it could have been another first rate and a sloop or schooner that is ship rigged? Many ships fought in that war. Nice image lava!

I'm so glad I'm not a naval historian/nautical artist/navy officer. I'm capable of just appreciating this picture for the beautiful piece of artwork it is. Maybe I should make a picture entitled "World War I" and put B-1 bombers, Crusader knights, nuclear warheads, Viking ships, Roman chariots, UFOs, and Star Trek phasers in it. Then I'll add some dramatic emotional character poses to make it seem like I'm actually trying to be serious.
