Please do not make any comments about gun control or political slogans. (If you do I'll get over it. That's the chance I take when I click the allow comments box, huh?) We all have our opinions and few of us will ever sway the other side. I'm from Texas. We just happen to really like guns here. We like our neighbors too. Someone wanted to see this pic after I mentioned the .50 cal. This is a Barret M82A1 Semi-Auto .50 cal BMG. It is a sniper rifle and is designed to put a very large bullet into a target up to 3 miles away... well maybe two if you're an ok shot.

I've tryed it.. during snipertraining in the Swedish Armed Forces... it's a very angry piece of weaponry... the photo as such hasn't got more value than a documentary shot.. Not that, that should meen that a documentary photo would be bad in any way..
I bet that thing has one hell of a kick! I love sniper stuff. Did you see the documentary that the history channel aired recently on the history of snipers?

The rifle is actually rather useless for the role it was designed to fullfill. Lighter rifles kill as well while still being carryable and the projectile is to small to damage equipment and vehicles... But it makes one hell of a lot of noise and it's psychological impact is enormous...
Fired it once... Liked my HK MSG 90 better...
I am a competitive shooter myself (CMP). I would sure like to try one, if only to be able to say that I have. However, on a regular basis, it's old reliable .30-'06 for me. Joerg- you are somewhat incorrect regarding the potential of the .50 BMG round, especially given the number of variants, such as the SLAP. IFV's and Recon-type vehicles are vulnerable to several .50 BMG types.

Yep, title is classic...one hellva gun. If possible, I'd love to see a photo while it's being fired...damn that's a big round.

^ errm he's holding it with both hands steph... they're pretty heavy y'know! I've never fired the barret but the AW-50 packs a punch.

Yeah, other rifles kill. This one kills through walls, armor etc... Some gurellas in an african nation were firing AKs into a crowd, then ducked behind a wall. BAM! Dead. Lesee any lighter cal rifle do that. Need to knock out some APCs or even medium tanks, BAM driver is dead. The beast is stalled and its hard to get it started again. Next target gunner...

Opt shot for a target behind a double brick wall is a mile or under. Armour plate, no problem. and the M4 makes a darn fine backup weapon I see.
